Leavenworth Summer Theater started in 1994 simply as a vision to John and Susan Wagner and Bill Weis. The opening season however was disastrous due to devastating fires in the Leavenworth area, fires in addition to the expected first year trials caused the theater to suffer severe financial losses. The following year the Wagners decided for a second attempt and produced The Sound of Music-it was a hit, so much so that 27 years later it is still performed yearly! The hills really do come alive in the Leavenworth production as the show is performed at an outdoor theater with massive views of the Cascade mountains and sometimes the occasional deer will stroll through the audience!
